| Further Information: This species prefers dark, humid conditions; in the wild it inhabits caves but it is usually found in homes, especially basements and cellars. The web appears as a tangled mass of silk strands from which the spider habitually hangs upside-down; the web is irregular since it has no adhesive properties and so must ensnare prey through entanglement alone. When disturbed, the spider vibrates its body and sways rapidly - this behaviour makes the spider blurry and difficult to attack by potential predators. |
